On June 9, BYU-Idaho's theatre department will present "The Lightning Thief" in the Snow Drama Theatre under the direction of Professor Katherine Schmid.
The show is a musical adaptation of the first book in Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series and debuted on Broadway in 2019.
Alan Werner, a sophomore studying welding and fabrication technology, saw posters for the show around campus.
"If I'm here, I really want to go," Werner said. "I haven't been to a lot of theatrical productions on campus, but I'm interested in seeing this one."
"Me too," said Mackenzie Toussaint, a senior studying nursing. "I grew up on it."
Neither Werner nor Toussaint has seen the Broadway production, but they enjoy the novels. Toussaint said she hasn't been to a theatre production before because of her class schedule, although she attends Extravadance every semester. Werner also has not attended a university theatre production either.
Luke Arbon, a member of "The Lightning Thief" ensemble, who also plays a squirrel, shared that enthusiasm.
"I'm just so excited for people to see it," said Arbon.

"The story is very near and dear to so many people's hearts, including mine...and I'm just so excited for opening night." Arbon said.
The show opens June 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Snow Drama Theatre, room 115. Tickets can be purchased at the door, at the university store or online. Tickets cost $5 for students and $8 for nonstudents.
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. June 9-13, June 16-18 and June 20. Matinee performances begin at 2 p.m. June 12, 13 and 20.
