Center Stage will present “Patriots and Pioneers” in the BYU-Idaho Center from 7:30-9 p.m. July 13.
“Patriots and Pioneers” is a musical presentation featuring more than 300 student performers from the Collegiate Singers, Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir and Symphony Band.
Emmy- and Tony-award-winning actor Edward Herrmann will recite Abraham Lincoln’s iconic “Gettysburg Address” as part of Aaron Copland’s orchestral work “A Lincoln Portrait.”
The performance will occur about 150 years after the Battle of Gettysburg and the original delivery of the “Gettysburg Address” by President Lincoln.
Herrmann portrayed family patriarch Richard Gilmore in the television series “The Gilmore Girls” for all seven seasons from 2000-2007.
Herrmann has been part of several films featuring American presidents.
He has played former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on multiple occasions and received Emmys for his portrayals in “Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years.” He also played Roosevelt in the first film version of the Broadway musical “Annie.”
He won a Tony award for playing Frank Gardner in a revival of George Bernard Shaw’s play “Mrs. Warren’s Profession” in 1976.
According to Center Stage, the performance will feature spiritual and patriotic music. Tickets cost $3 for BYU-I students and $6 for the general public. No children under 6 will be admitted.
