The melody of the children’s song, “A Child’s Prayer” was sung by volunteer couples at one of the recent BYU-Idaho devotionals.
Paul Busselberg was the director of this unique choir, and he got to choose the song they performed. He needed to find a well-known song because there wasn’t going to be a lot of practice. He decided on “A Child’s Prayer.”
“I thought, well, that’s… kind of a, maybe an odd piece to pick for couples… but maybe it isn’t. Maybe, you know, when we start thinking about couples, we start thinking about love and families and relationships and families. And so “A Child’s Prayer” just ended up feeling like a really good fit,” said Busselberg.

Recently engaged couple Dallin Lee and Julia Mangum were among the couples who volunteered to join this one-of-a-kind choir.
“I think it was a good bonding moment between us,” said Lee. “I really liked it, how it really brought us closer together. I mean, where we usually do sit still close together, but like being able to sit there with her, doing something active.”
The First Presidency Preface to the hymn book talks about how music can be a great way to bring in the spirit and how it is a great addition to a meeting. Lee agrees and says that it is a great way to worship and show love for God.
Mangum echoed what her fiancé said and agreed it was a great way to show their love for God.
“We know the love between each other, but it’s also really special that we share a love for God as well… and as a group, in like, the whole choir,” said Mangum.
The couple said that any of those who are thinking about choir should just do it and join.
“Because it was a couple’s choir, you’re walking hand in hand with someone that you already love and know well, there’s nothing you can ruin,” Lee said.
