Volunteers of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a non-profit organization, held a bunk bed build day on March 24 to help children in the community have a place to sleep.
The motto for Sleep in Heavenly Peace is “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in My Town.” According to their website, they are a group of volunteers that are dedicated to building, assembling and delivering well-made bunk beds to children and families in need.
Levi Shaffer, the Rexburg chapter president for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, started the chapter a year ago. Since then, the organization has continued to grow.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace has 13 chapters across the country in Twin Falls, Boise, Lehi, Utah, Fresno, California and other locations around the country. Shaffer said participants are anxious for more to come.
BYU-Idaho Student Service Activities partnered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to give back to the community.
“I like serving because it always makes me happy,” said Clark Atkins, a freshman studying biology. “It’s a good way to give back.”
In their bunk bed build day, they built 60 beds and were ready to deliver them to children that night.
