The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced new leadership opportunities allowing women to serve in ward Sunday School presidencies, marking a notable update to Church organization.

According to a News Release by the Church Newsroom, Sunday School presidencies in local congregations can now be composed of entirely men or women.

The First Presidency emphasizes in a letter to Church leaders worldwide on Wednesday that local leaders should “seek the guidance of the Spirit in determining whom to call.”

It is also emphasized that the role of the ward Sunday School presidency does not change.

Local leaders have responded positively to the announcement.

“What an amazing day to see God’s hand in His work,” said Jeff Dahlke, bishop of the 66th Rexburg YSA ward. “I am so excited that we can call sisters to work as Sunday School presidencies. I am confident that this new revelation will help strengthen testimonies and help edify the Saints.”

The Church’s General Handbook has been updated to reflect these changes.

Here is the complete list of all of the March 2026 updates to the General Handbook.
